Hello Dorothy and everyone
Hello Dorothy and everyone,
I'm really sorry, but it was only today that I managed to sit down to do all the work, and only today did I notice that the deadline was Thursday! I hope I can be excused just this first time. I promise to stick to deadlines till the end of the course :)
The project I would like to work on is a short story for (very) young learners, a reader / picture book, aiming to raise awareness on the topic of stray dogs. I imagine it as a series of stories and I would work on the first one in this course. In each story a child faces some kind of a problem and a stray dog helps out (e.g. in the first story which I have almost ready, the child protagonist loses a teddy bear in the park and a stray dog with his super nose helps the child find it).
Homework #1 Should it be done?
•Who would read/use my material?
Teachers of (very) young learners, mothers (they may use it as a bedtime story), children on their own.
•Why? What would they gain from it?
Raising awareness
In countries where the issue of stray animals is present, thanks to my story learners would become aware of the fate of stray animals; and it is is a serious issue in many countries worldwide. And in countries in which this problem is not so serious, this story would allow learners to develop their sensitivity and it would make them aware of the existence of this problem in other parts of the world.
•What are they currently using or reading instead?
Other picture books, stories - authentic or graded readers.
•Why do I think my material (or idea) is good?
Because something needs to be done to end this animal rights abuse, and feeding strays is just not enough.
Homework #2 Can it be done?
•What will the final product look like—text? images? size? format? length?
The draft I have has 14 pages. The thing is that there needs to be an image on every page, and after watching the recording of the session, I got worried about it. However, the images would be drawn by my daughter, so they would not be very "heavy".
•How much have I already written? How much is left to do?
I have a first draft of the whole text (even if you tell me, Dorothy, that it cannot be done as an ebook, I will do sth with it, e.g. a handmade big book which I will later use for my storytelling sessions, so it won't go wasted).
•How much of the thinking/planning have I already done? How much is left to do?
My daughter has come back from her summer holidays a couple of days ago, so she will start drawing for me ASAP. It's not that she is a super artist :) Just a regular 12-year-old very sensitive when it comes to stray animals, so she has told me she would be more than happy to help :)
•When do I plan to write?
Weekends, nights - that's when I can get any work done, as I work all day :/ I can do it though!
Once again, really sorry for the delay - I didn't realise there was an early deadline.
Cheers,
Margarita

Even a stock photo or a photo that you take doesn't have to be heavy, if there are only 14. Of course, you won't have a photo on each "page,"
ReplyDeletebecause we don't have pages. But you could have a photo before/after each bit of text. Would that work?
And don't worry about the deadline. :) You're doing fine!
Margarita Kosior I really love this project!!! Here if you need something from me!! πππ
ReplyDeleteLaura Perrotta I would love to hear your comments. I uploaded my work in progress in the relevant section in our community. If you want, have a look and tell me what you think. Thanks a million!
