Hey All, I also am confused about how to "create in epub format" as opposed to using epub to read ebooks.

I have started typing text in a Word Document format. I have a Mac Air and I have IBook and am getting IBook Author today. So I can create in IBook Author and convert to epub format? Is that how it works? Then I can also convert that to Google docs to post in our community?
Thank you guys for yor time!

Hi, Also, just a note! I had to go back to my doctor on Wednesday to see why I was not getting better. I am on new meds and have started getting a little better. I am starting to stress because my husband and I are leaving Friday for Miami and a big Reunion weekend with my husband. I had hoped to be caught up and ready to be at Saturday late night class. I seem to be just spinning my wheels and running into road bumps. Being sick and being out of the country has really slowed me down and I am frustrated.
ReplyDeleteDebbie Kellermann Life happens! That's unavoidable. Still sucks, but please don't beat yourself up over it. What I did last year with this course was say that if you completed your work any time over the next year, I'd happily look at it. So please don't feel like this week or next is your only chance. Books and readers aren't going anywhere. :)
ReplyDeleteSo, as for the steps... I presume you're following the steps in the slides from last week? So you'll start with a Word doc. Make it clean (remove certain formatting, use Styles, etc). Then convert to an ebook file, either .mobi (Kindle) or .epub, using one of the methods presented. They should all result in a nice ebook file, but different people find different ones easier, which is why I gave options.
iBook author should also work just fine, although I've never used it so I can't troubleshoot with that--though I think I do have reasonable instincts, so I could try! It's possible other people in our course have used it, though.
Work in small steps. Do join us Saturday night if you can, BUT I'd honestly say that a big family weekend in Miami might be more important. You can still watch the recording later, after all!
Debbie Kellermann Also meant to say, the posting as a google doc happens before you make an ebook file--because you want feedback from other people before you go to the trouble of formatting. The google doc part is to get editing and proofreading from the other participants.
