Homework #1 Should it be done?

Homework #1 Should it be done?
•Who would read/use my material (From Pancake Art to SLime-Lesson plans) ?
Teachers who are getting increasingly frustrated by how young and teen learners respond to traditional materials (they tend to find coursebook texts irrelevant and thus boring). These are the teachers who don’t choose to bash the digital generations for being unable to pay attention and make an effort.
Our learners are growing up bombarded with digital products that are carefully designed to trigger the right combination of feel-good hormones. The physical world is being designed to become more and more user friendly. Little wonder kids can’t be motivated by traditional materials which are not following the trend. Traditional materials neither trigger dopamine, nor are user-friendly. This book is an attempt to beat this.
•Why? What would they gain from it?
An insight into how to wrap learning into activities that are more enjoyable and and relevant to younger generations (PBL light, semi-DOGME).
•What are they currently using or reading instead?
They create their own materials, hunt for ideas online, seek in-service training opportunities and desperately try to force through mass-produced coursebooks, all of which is very time and energy consuming.
•Why do I think my material (or idea) is good?
My (very narrow) experience shows that the approach (a fun kind of experiential learning) works really well, and I have positive feedback from colleagues after presenting my ideas at conferences (still quite subjective thought).

  1. Awesome idea! I think exactly the same: hands-on activities make learning memorable! If you want someone to try your ideas, we can have a go in our school. There are 250 students.

  3. Dear all :) I'm one of those people who've seen Barbi present at conferences - her sessions are always lots of fun. And the samples of her work she demonstrates are a proof that her ideas can turn a boring lesson into an amazing experience. So this book can definitely fill a gap and help those teachers who are not afraid to move away from traditional teaching and maybe sometimes turn things upside down in their classroom a bit :)
