Homework #1 Should it be done?
Homework #1 Should it be done?
Who would read/use my material?
Teacher with no or little experience of preparing students for IELTS; teachers who are looking for new ideas on how to prepare their students for the test
Why? What would they gain from it?
They will have a better understanding of the test itself, feel more confident about doing it and will be able to do it more effectively (I hope)
What are they currently using or reading instead?
They probably rely on teachers’ books that come with the coursebooks they are using, IELTS official website, youtube video tutorials and lessons for students
Why do you think my material (or idea) is good?
Teaching exam preparation classes can be daunting if you know little about the exam itself. It’s also a type of course where students have very specific needs (a required band) that need to be achieved in a limited span of time, so there is often a lot of pressure.
Homework #2 Can it be done?
What will the final product look like – text? Images? Sizes? Format? Length?
Mostly text with some images and possibly links to online materials that can be used. I’m planning to have a separate chapter for each part of the test. Each chapter will have information about the relevant part of the test and tips on how to help students with it. The main focus will be on integrating different skills rather than a collection of discrete activities.
How much have I already written? How much is left to do?
How much thinking/planning have I done?
Very little planning but it has been on my mind for a while. I haven’t done any writing.
When do I plan to write?
Later in the evening, that’s when I’m most productive, and at weekends.

ReplyDeleteThis sounds very useful! I don't have any experience with IELTS, but I do think that students benefit a lot from learning about a particular test and how to prepare for it specifically.
ReplyDeleteThis is the sort of project that, if priced cheaply enough, could do well if you sell it. Just so you know. :)
ReplyDelete"In my mind" counts as planning... now it's time to start writing!
There are a few 'full price' books out there for teachers that include an overview (I've just look at speaking tests), but a basic overview (with a cheaper price, as DZ mentioned), would be very welcome.
